How do I remove plants before they're ready to harvest?

I have some annoying pumpkin plants I'd like to remove, is it possible to get rid of them? This seems like a silly question :/

Not a silly question indeed!
In fact, just in W6 when I got betrayed by some noobs, I was a noob myself, I just took an inv full of pumpkin seeds, and destroyed every house building post they were making (they tried to move away from me. TRIED.)
And planted pumpkin seeds all over the place, in a griefy way, not in a pretty blocky way.
Their progress was halted for the exact time pumpkins take to grow, and since I got to see crowns and glimmers before they grew, I got Rage, came back, and killed them through a fence. (didn't have vandalism, killing took me a good 3 hours for 2 people. Was full life and like 20 str)
...So yeah, can't remove crops that haven't grown.

You can build over them just fine but there's nothing you can do to remove the visual representation of the crop until it has fully grown.

Kind of annoying if you're a neat freak like me and want to design your area but have got some unwanted crops in the way.
