Soil, Water, & Clay Quality Nodes... *HELP*

Postby DirtySpr33 » Tue Aug 20, 2013 4:13 am

Just needing to figure out how big exactly these higher quality nodes can be...
Assuming we're talking about the grid system here, how many blocks wide could a node be?
This has really been frustrating me as I am looking into making higher quality trees!
So I do need help with this as soon as possible ;S

All trees naturally found in the wilderness is q10. You'll have to make your own by using higher q treeplanters pots, soil, water, and of course the seed itself.

Herp derp he didn't ask where to find above q10 trees in the wilderness. You didn't answer a single question he asked.

I know this about trees, but the nodes themselves for Water, Soil, & Clay is
what I need help with. How big can they actually be in size.. Going back to what I
said about the grid system, if you use Ender's Client and press CTRL+G Is there say,
an average size for a quality 13 water source?

Nodes can vary in size pretty greatly. I've heard of some extremely high quality nodes being extremely small in their radius and low quality nodes being extremely massive. Size of the node and quality of the node aren't really related so you'll just have to spend time searching to the peak which can be a very annoying task.

Thanks Rye, I also somewhere though that with a well comes a better chance at
having higher quality water. I actually do have a quality twelve well or so and I
remember seeing somewhere that if the quality was high in the well it could also
be a notification for a source around.. Is this true, because searching around my
area for thirty minutes wasn't enough to prove it to me. ;/

The water from a well is linked to the quality of the water node. If you find a water spot on a river/lake where the quality increases the closer you get to land, its usually a good idea to try and build a well somewhere inland close to that water node because the actual peak of the node could be on a land tile instead of on one of the water tiles from the river/lake. Wells are also unique in the fact that taking water from them does not lower the quality of the node while taking water from a river/lake does. Also, the quality of water from a well is not hardcapped by survival while the quality of every other resource is.

If you happen to live in a friendly neighbourhood ask neighbours about sources...or a joint venture to find all well spots and build them...

Look for claims on rivers - grab some water at claim border - if q is good you might search for well spots inland - if you got a good well claim and palli it ... on the other hand ok water isn't that expensive to trade, even higher q water is worth it's price when treeplanting

Nodes sizes are random from my experience this world - i.e. one spot with q22 well has no other well nor river around with higher q (all q10) and the spots are all real close together

A river node with good mid q has no well spots near and the next one is q12 but 35 tiles away

Thanks for the information guys, its been helpful but, one last question!
If I start searching for water in a river/lake for higher quality water, at what
point should I check again? Every ten spaces or so? More, or less?

There's a touch to it just like searching for the peak of any node. Pull too frequently and the peak becomes harder to find due to depletion. I go about every 20 tiles or so and try to triangulate. As you get closer, you can start narrowing your search down to a single tile.
