Troll Hitbox

After seeing a thread in the Inn of Brodgar about stickman dying by troll, getting hit for 50% defence with 600 UA, I realised something: I should probably use an alt for mining, but I can't do so at the moment. Anyways, I looked up the hitboxes file on the forums and whatnot, and saw the troll's being listed as 16x16, which is slightly larger than the regular 11x11 tile size. Being that I'd of course like to kill a troll if ever one spawned (I've mined at least 2k+ tiles and have yet to find one...), I wouldn't want to just run away and let it despawn. If I mine a line like this:

Will the troll be able to get to me? Or is there something else I should know about troll combat behaviour? Thanks, guys.

In that hole, quickly build your HF and stand on it.
He drops caveins around randomly, but caveins, theoretically, can't hit you while you're on HF ebcause HF has hitbox.
And then shoot with bow, sling, w/e

On a serious note, though, does anyone know the range of their cave-in causing attack, then? Could I potentially just dig a straight line far enough away so as not to be injured?

Trolls can walk into that shaft. The tile hitboxes behave differently. You can pass over them but you cant cross them meaning that only the exact center of the troll needs to be inside a non void tile to walk there. The rest of his body can be inside the void.

The only time I think the troll might get confused and not find a path are the diagonally dug tiles (a narrow gap between 2 diagonally dug tiles that allows players to barely walk through). I'm unsure how the behavior of trolls are around tiles like that.

Thanks for the info, guys, I guess I'll ignore any trolls that spawn anywhere but the first level, then. That's assuming they can't cross water tiles, so I could just pull it to a shallow water area?

The instant the troll cant reach you he will kill you. You either need to run up the ladders, into a house or exit the cave or he will start doing cavins on whoever he is aggroed to until he kills said person. But don't worry getting a troll is roughly 1/100 000 tiles so its not gonna happen unless you mine daily and for weeks on end.
