Locked inside my own palisade.

Postby malkuth » Thu Aug 22, 2013 1:04 pm

So as of this morning my gatekeeper got killed and looted while my main was still inside the claim ( was running for the gate to lock it ). So now they have the key and the posibility to come and go as they see fit, ( and yes they were the stereotypical russian, murdering without hesitation ). so now the problem.. I want to keep my spot in the world but I would also like to keep the gate locked. I do have the equipment to build a ram, but that needs 1RL day to dry before I can use it and they will probably be back and just destroy it while it dries? So how long will it take for me alone to smash any part of the pali down alone? ( 79 str ) or should I just grab the best of my stuff, destroy my HF and hope that I happen to land in a better place?

Holy shit you're not worth the help.
Anyway, build a ram, bash the gate. It's easy alone, anyway. That, or gather the most valuable stuff, bash HF and port away.

DO NOT use keys.
You need 484 str to even damage a palisade without a ram (and that is with a sledgehammer), best bet is for you to either make a ram or destroy your hearthfire and grab your stuff.
On the bright side, you learned something! I hope.
Try out with some newer towns, lots of people recruiting at the moment.

The fact that you took offence means that you fall into that category. and yes I learned something. dont leave your claim.. but how the hell will I be able to get out if I dont use the key on the gate? :P

1. offense*
2. I'm not even Russian, nor do I kill people for no reason
3. Crossroads, or use a key alt that's only online for the 3 seconds it takes for you to get out and close the gate again.

And btw, just because I dislike people who judge others by where they're from doesn't mean I'm the one being judged.

"you are from x so you must be an asshole" is something anyone from anywhere can take offense because you dont have to be the victim to be bothered by something.

now do you want actual help?

i'd make a palli at very first to shut off the gate they have keys for, check for unknown HFs and destroy if found, build a Ram to make a new gate ...

make a thread in congress for a ranger ( might cost some stuff) to track the scents ...

"murdering russians"--the ploy all "push your shit in" raiders like to use to take heat off themselves as a potential culprit because most noobs won't bother tracking scents back to the origin. Instead, they'll just come to the forums and get huffy about it.

Also, in the future, better to sacrifice your character than to lose your keys. It's easier to rebuild a character than it is to replace your settlement. Also, put up village idol, build a couple of crossroads, no more need for a key alt on a regular basis.

Only once in this game have I ever been attacked by a russian, all the others i've met have been incredibly helpful and friendly, albeit once they have established where i'm from. ;)
But, i'm sure you get the point by now. :P

If you have the materials and want to stay, then as borka says, your first priority is to close off that gate, either by building a new one onto it or just building in front of it, if it's the latter you can always rectify it once you have your ram.

If the worst comes to the worst and you have to leave, look at it as a chance to find a better spot. With no baggage or ties you are free to roam and find yourself some useful nodes. I always make a wilderness alt to travel around and it paid off well this world, so well that i'm in the process of moving my main from her original base even though she is quite established where she is - there is always a better spot somewhere. :)

Good luck!

The new crossroad expense is total bullshit because of this. Keys fucking suck.
