How to work as a merchant

I am currently a newb farmer on my own and its getting pointless as I am the only one using the goods. Is there a system of trade in this game where i can travel to villages and sell goods or will most people tell me to get lost. If so what is a good commodoty to sell

Wow, it would be heaven if people told you to get lost.
Most people will kill you, or hide into their houses when they see you.
Anyway, if you have a village claim you can make a thread in apples for oranges, where you sell your goods.

Main thing is collecting foragables, but nowadays with forage bots being out there it's not quite as lucrative as it used to be (flotsams just don't seem to have the buying power that I remember back in world 5). On a small scale, if you can get in contact with a village near you that is friendly, the basic foragables like chantrelles, blueberries, and nettles can be traded (also sometimes raw fish filets). But usually these aren't in-demand enough for idol trades with the big merchant groups, unless you can get obscene amounts of them.

You could join a village that lets you own a bit o land, relocate your farm and trade with the other villagers.

You could trade via idol teleportation with people you find on the forums.

You could make contact with your neighbors on the rivers while hunting, and offer them trades...
but trading by boat travel is kind of not worth the trouble =/
