Focusing

Postby Russaria » Fri Nov 06, 2009 4:14 pm

I've had a lot of fun, finally got my first claim tonight on my higher character (sent the other way out in wilderness to try a bit more of a challenge). I was wondering how people dealt with the game as far as the wide range of things to do. I often find myself rather confused as to which way to turn as I try to decide "what to do now". Guess by that I mean I'm having trouble focusing as there is so much to do (And I want to do it all) that it is hard to know WHAT to do..lol and I end up sitting in like a daze of indicision. I know some of it based on where you are and what you find (lucky enough to find a mine, claim a cave, live near sand or some other particular type of terrain). But in the general, I was wondering how people focus. Do most of the players choose a specific area to excel in? How do YOU as a player focus in the game, do you for instance choose beer, or wine, or a specific plant or trees...ect. Would love to hear some ideas or experinces about how you keep focused in the game with there being so much and so many directions I'm sure there's been other like myself who find themselves spinning in one place because they want to "do everything" so badly that they end up doing nothing at all (Kind of like overwhelmed with possiblities)...LOL

well if you are cooperating with many other players, you can often focus on what you find interesting and leave the other tasks to them

I don't focus. Doing just one thing is boring. I have a list of stuff that needs doing, and I just pick whatever seems most fun at the time.

lol
It is good to know that I am not the only one who has this problem.
I cope with the distraction/choice issue by trying to start a session with some general goals in mind. Staying alive and leveling my characters up are general goals, but I also pick out a couple of themes to work on like cheese making (if I can find the cows) or securing my tiny compound with a palisade wall, or perhaps laying in a supply of leather. My favorite part of game play though is capitalizing on the opportunities that come along, and visiting with other Characters. In order to do that I always stay flexible and as Potjeh says, I do what is fun.

well, for starters you could just decide to got industry or nature. you can also keep it neutral, but i think thats not really fun... half the trees die, only few iron out of mine, and so on... better to focus on one of them and get the full benefit.
then you can look further, theres still enough to do in one of those two directions

Thanks all,

I guess I'll try to go full nature and concentrate on farming crops and trees and cooking as my main goals. Maybe i can find enough to do in just one area and try to excel at a few things instead of everything...lol

Wheat, tree, tea, and grape fields are my focus.

Hunting, cheese, vinegar, sausages, beer, and wine.

These are the things I usually do.

Those sound fun. I figure as time passes one can get into side ventures if you stumble across resources and such. I guess it just takes patience and controling the urge to do too much as it is all so "fun" (which says a lot about the game overall)..lol I'me pretty much settling on improving crop quality and my farming/cooking skills. Trying to get better trees and doing a little linen sewing on the side. I'd like to do the wine and/or beer but transportation can be a hinderance. Locating sand and getting there would be perilous and triesome to make glass. But as time goes by and I learn more i may could add one of those things to my "Crops/cooking/trees/linen" direction.
