noobs can normaly get one piece no matter where they dig but you will need to find a clay node to get more. and once you find a clay node you will need at least as high survival as the node is to get max q clay from it.

If you don't get more than one that means there isn't a node there. Just keep traveling and digging until you find a node.

Hi :D welcome to H&H.

This might help you get some tips: http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Finding_h ... ,_and_soil

You can dig ball clay in shores from your boat, so dont need to go walking by, it is much faster, but also your toon is more exposed to unfriendly players, so maybe you can decide to make a new alt to try the rivers next to your place.
If your char has 1 survival you will allways get clay Quality 10, but will get much more amount of clay before depleting the node. To get higher Q you need to get your survival up.

Good luck!.

Q: I'm digging for clay but not getting any, why is this?
A: There are invisible resource allocators known as 'nodes' in the world. Not every location has a node and nodes that do exist are circular/ovular in shape. Nodes determine how much of a resource is at a location and at what quality. Nodes produce the highest qualities at the center of the node. If a mudflat or shallow shoreline does not have a clay node, then digging it will produce only 1 piece of quality 10 clay or no clay at all. Nodes deplete as they are used and produce lower and lower quality products. Nodes will heal in time if not used but will never exceed their original maximum quality. Some resources do not need a node to be used, such as water, stone, sand, and soil. Without a node you cannot dig for clay, fish for fish, or mine for metal ore though.
