Ender's and prospecting

Postby Mythix » Tue Sep 10, 2013 10:51 pm

Quick question when using Ender's client to prospect. Which is acurate, the numeric value in the pop up window or the pie slice that is left on the ground. I find when Ender's reports negative degree's the discrepancy between the two is sometimes up to 15 degrees off. And when using q 50+ extract, that can mean a HUGE difference.

Also I was wondering, If a minehole is sunk into a node of say TIN, can that node still be reported when prospecting? Based on what I have seen, and prospecting around an existing mine still reports the ore you already know exists.

Also, I have done numerous experiments with prospecting on LVL 4. I find if I use anything other than q 30+ extract, my failure rate is 100% even when standing on top of ore I know is below me. I used q27 rustroot extract and stood on top of my mine the level above it and prospected. Even when standing on top of ore I KNEW was there, I got a 100% failure rate. I also made sure I moved at least 5 squares after every failure. (sometimes 15 or more) No matter what I did, I used 28 charges of q 27 extract on lvl 4 of the mine and got 100% failure even when standing above a Tin node on lvl 5.

I swapped out the q 27 extract for q 31 and immediately got reading and headings. It also told me I was standing on TIN. Has anyone else experienced this, or am I just the most unlucky person on HnH?

The pie wedge gives you the approximate direction and margin of error. This is the same for prospecting, dowsing (wells), and tracking. The numbers reported in the window are exactly the same as the wedge. The kicker is that the directions reported in the window are the "raw" values (from what I understand) and don't line up correctly with your typical NSEW compass rose. I'd have to do some digging to get the correct directions.

Yes, prospecting near a node you already know will report the same node until that node is mined out. The mining system changed with w4, but the way prospecting reported didn't, so it's a bit weird with that.

Interesting. I've never gone below L3 myself. Would be great if anyone can confirm this or not and whether the same thing occurs on other levels, too, with lower quality extract. (Being tin was probably just being unlucky.)

Rustroot seems to prospect in rings. If you're standing to close to a node (but not right on top of it) with to high quality rustroot you'll get "No minerals found". To top it off, i'm pretty sure it's buggy as hell. But i think it's equally buggy on all levels :). Also, even with low q rustroot i'm pretty sure it can happen if you're too close but not on top of the node.
