Palisade trouble

Postby Takiari » Wed Sep 18, 2013 4:50 am

So, I've gathered enough resources to build the initial palisade post. I built it, left it to set for two days. Today I tried to extend it, but right clicking did nothing. Could somebody come in to my claim and seal it? Also what do I do with a post in a way, build a ram and take it down or build the palisade in a different place, with this one post as a decoration?

Yes, someone could of came onto your claim and sealed the post on you.

People in this game can be pricks. Its a bit of a thing here. Just so you know though, the time it takes to set is in in-game days. It actually takes just 12 hours to dry and become usable.

As for the newly useless cornerpost, you've 2 options really. Leave it as decoration, or destroy it with a ram. You'll either need 36+ str or 2 chars using the ram to break the palisade.

Alright, thanks a lot. I'm actually surprised somebody wandered in since there are only two abandoned houses in close proximity and I haven't seen a soul except a friendly Russian during some foraging... I guess I'll bash it down.

But can I move the ram around or is it static?

You can move a ram, but after a certain distance you will need to repair it with bone glue and it'll need to dry to be usable again. If I remember correctly, it can be moved about 20 tiles before needing repair/drying.

If it doesnt mess up your plans for the area, I would suggest waiting until you have built the palisade around your claim until you destroy the palisade. Otherwise the ram could be used to mess with you, destroy homes etc.

Plow and pave underneath the Ram and it's proposed way for moving before building it. Btw. dry time is 12 hours Realtime.

you cannot extend from the sealed cornerpost, but you can still use the sealed cornerpost as the last cornerpost to have gate to, so you dont have to destroy it with a ram.
Code: Select all
C=============C
=             =
=             =
=             =
C====N--S=====C

= ... wall sections
N ... newly built cornerpost
S ... sealed cornerpost
C ... sub cornerpost
-- ... gate (2 spaces)

just start your new cornerpost 2 tiles away from the sealed one and build around to reach the sealed one and you will be fine.
having a ram around without a brickwall would only make it easier for raiders to destroy stuff.

Was the cornerpost on a claim? Doesn't sealing leave vandalism scents?

Yes, it does, but Takiari may not have ranging yet or not have the stats to see them.

This is your best bet.

Here we need to figure out when to build stuff that has a cool down period to continue building to avoid other players making this that happened to you. Brickwalls, houses and I think mineholes too.

You can find out the setting times in the wiki and have to consider real time is not the same than in-game time.

Also if you leave the started building in a sign post, the sign can be easily destroyed and you loose all work on materials placed inside.

Another thing to be considered is that this post instead of being sealed could have been used to continue the palisade making a pocket and leaving inside a ram that after the cool down period could have been used to destroy your other buildings. I try to start my walls far away from my buildings, as rams are difficult to move because the deteriorate and need to be fixed (with their own period of cool down).

At this stage of the game we have many players that own toons that can bash a palisade with out the need of a ram, so maybe your best option is to consider a brickwall, and thinking you allready have suffered this, maybe it would be wise to move and settle in another place, far from other players and far from rivers that are the main way of land transport.
