Destroy a gate..

I just moved into this area and the key was misplaced and lost from the previous owner, the gate was also left open. I tried destroying it to make a new one and I destroyed the two cornerposts on the sides, the gate isn't gone and it's not letting me destroy it, is there any possible way I can get rid of it?
