naked and beaten in bed

A friend logged off in bed with clothes on and normal health in a bed, then when he logged back on the next day his hearthling was unconscious, low health and naked, still in the bed. The bed is in a claim with a pali and no troublesome types have access to the pali. Any idea how this can happen?

Its indoors with a claim, village and palisade.

your friend most likely had left summonable scents before going to bed and got summoned, knocked out, and got his clothes stripped.
BUT, im not sure how he was still "in bed" when he logged back on and there may be some other reason to that.
have you checked if any scents left at your village? (at this stage of the world, palisades can always be bashed and repaired.)

Evidently your friend was summoned for leaving criminal scents and assaulted while he was asleep until his gear was destroyed and he was left near the brink of death. That much is obvious.
If he had been lacking a hearthfire they could have summoned him anywhere but then he would have woken up where he was spawned, so that's not it.
Since he was on a claim and in a building when it happened, they couldn't have summoned him at range and just sniped him down.

That means someone did have access to your village and used that access to attack your friend. Either they bashed a wall segment, had a key, or are part of the village itself.

Force summoning someone with no hearth fire kills them so he would not have woken up at all

Also, I don't think the gear was beaten off of him; he was probably knocked out and then had it stolen off of him.

another possible story would be, this friend of yours might have relogged in once on the bed, then logged out without clicking the bed, and before his char actually logs out from the game (you know itll take some time to log out), someone aggroed him as his char starts zzz, knocked him out, stripped him and left him, maybe.
either way, you should start looking for any scents left inside your village.
