What to say to a person

Postby Andrew78910 » Wed Oct 16, 2013 1:19 am

What should I say to a person if I want them to play Haven and Hearth? Any advice? A big speech perhaps? I would really like some of my friends to play this game but they just don't seem that interested.

Play it beside them, and make sure they see you carrying a boar. xD It was so comical that my buddies gave it a try and stuck with it for quite awhile, before it began to suck away their color, with their lack of familiarity to sunlight.

Really, just take an approach that will appeal to them. If they really like consequences for their actions, play up the perma-death aspect and the quasi-justice that forms around scents.

If they dislike heavy consequences, you may want to play down that aspect so they in the very least try out the game.

If they enjoy the attribute and skill system play that up. So on and so forth, and be honest.

If you have what you want to say/do in mind, that's great! If you're still at odds, you can perhaps provide a brief profile of their likes and dislikes so we can put forward some appealing topics for you to try using them to convince your friends of putting their feet in the water.

That sounds like an excellent plan I'll try that. I think I got some friends that would like the boar strategy and the skills. I'll post the results to see if it worked. Thank you for your help!

This game is pretty hardcore for most people to continue playing over prolonged periods...but it is pretty addictive!

Try to get a group together rather than playing with individuals, the more people you have the more interesting the game is imo, the communication makes it fun, you learn together, you are able to contribute different things based on what you like to do in game...some people like to build, others enjoy killing things, some love to plan, some love monotonous tasks like farming etc etc. Trying to do it all can be quite taxing for most people, and when you have others there it just add to the enjoyment of it all.

good luck:)

Have to agree with Eemerald on the group. Those of us that hermit a lot tend to hang out in the forums too much if we stick around more than a few weeks. :P

For me there was really only 1 selling point to justify why I spend so much time playing what looks like on the surface to be a silly game but is actually 10x more exciting and immersive than any other game out there

That is the perma death aspect, no other game has a PvP system that gets your heart racing in quite the same way, because they don't have real consequences like Haven does. If you die you don't just respawn and come back 2 minutes later, you potentially lose months of hard work, which is awesome!

It means when you kill someone or trash the village they spent months creating, there is genuine misery on the other end of the network :P the drama becomes real and things like competence and teamwork actually start to matter

My friends weren't interested in Haven but I think they can understand why it is fun

I started in w3 with group of people from same forum, was 3-4 at begining then it grew to 7-8, since everyone liked it. I think most of people hung around the game after we build a pali and stuff, and quit just because there was no mines left of iron anymore and we had not much skills to find it ourselves, then some joined Angkor and some quit :)
