Base sword calculation

Postby Xcom » Fri Dec 20, 2013 11:43 pm

So me and ramones did some Q10 swords just to test there damages and get there base damage.

Full peaceful damage:
Militia - 160 dmg
Bronze - 200 dmg
Soldier - 240 dmg

Neutral damage after removing peaceful (the base damage of each weapon type):
Militia - 200 dmg
Bronze - 250 dmg
Soldier - 300 dmg

An image taken during the test.

Image
Test consisted of sparring an alt and draining his defense to zero. Then using sting to do damage with the weapon of choice and recording the damage.

Note the damage was consistent and exactly the same even after repetitive testing so the damage was exactly what is shown on that image each and every time I repeated the test.

I must say I'm confused about Militia still being the worst of the 3. Why is a more expensive type of weapon less valuable in combat then a bronze sword. Does herdsmen get a hidden bonus somehow? or did Loftar repeat the same mistake.

Bronze requires 2 different types of ore and has always been a step up over iron, a single ore, and a step below steel, still a single ore but very labor intensive. I believe that was the balance that they wanted when designing metals originally.

Bronze is a poor man's steel. =)

Militia Swords always had less damage than Bronze Swords if I recall. If the Ring of Brodgar listed stats were as accurate as your testing, it would appear swords were all "nerfed" by 25% compared to their previous values.

I dunno why Militia Swords were always weaker, I think Chainmail shirt gets it much worse though, for it's price. I only like them because of their aesthetic (blue shirt and the curved blade).

Edit: one thing I think is worse, though, is not that descrepency with base values, but how little quality has in regards to damage output. I have a q70 militia sword I was given that can't compete with some crappy q20 bronze sword I made. Quality should have more of an effect rather than the base damage inherint with the weapon (of course finding a way to balance it so it doesn't go overboard at higher qualities could've been an issue).
Hearthlings: Marona; Chamberlain (retainer alt), Vincavec (shaman of the Dryad Wells Forest)

The q70 militia sword should have a 480 damage output with a 2.4x quality multiplier while the q20 bronze sword should have a ~333 damage output with a 1.3x quality multiplier. You should need a ~q38 bronze sword to be on par with a q70 militia sword. Starting at q39 is when it is objectively better.
