How do I Use Foraging

I have the foraging skill and 3 exploration, but I have no idea how to use the foraging skill. The wiki says things I can forage should appear on my map but I haven't seen anything yet and it's been a few hours.

The amount of stuff you see and what you see depends on Perception*Exploration
