You can minimize the chance of encountering raiders.
First and foremost don't be a huge dick and make lots of enemies. This isn't guaranteed to work but it helps tons.
Second, move outside of the starting grids. The location you start in is where a lot of players start and settle in. Move far, far away from there towards the outer grids. Try not to settle next to big towns unless you're friends with them.
Third, don't leave criminal scents everywhere. Players can and will use those to track you down and kill you. If you feel like looting and pillaging, be aware that there are consequences.

everyone will get killed when they start, but trust me this is a learning experience. If you're the type whose likely to get upset and instantly quit once killed, be it by other players or through silly mistakes new players make, like getting attacked by animals, drowning, or having ants eat your clogs, then this probably isn't for you.

There are many ways to play this game without needing pvp, and you can protect yourself through building walls, and not leaving scents for people to track you. But the need to do those things and protect urself is kind of part of the fun of this game. if pvp didn't exist, everyone would just paddle along doing bits and pieces, here and there, but the element of dangers means you need to take other measures, and learn from previous newb mistakes.

it's fun:)

good luck

another good thing to do early on (before brickwall rly, nad sometimes even after :P) is to alt-vault. basicly u exploit that u can make tons of alts nad store valuables on them.
for example before ur brickwall is up u gonna wanna store the metals for the actual cornerposts on alts so raiders cant stel em. etc. etc.

In about 1500 or so hours of play time, I've only been murdered once. that once was because I got stupid and greedy for a bear at the start of a world.

And since i was to start a new there will be tons of ppl who has more skill and will kill me easy so new players = raided= slave?

Doesn't matter. Skill is greater than stats in this game, though stats make it easier and quicker and allows for more room for mistakes. You're going to die because your new just like in any other game, not because you don't have stats.

Brick walls... people aren't generally going to break in to a hermit's base with a brick wall to steal stuff because there isn't going to be anything worthwhile for them there (and the strength needed to do it solo is ridiculous). However, making a brick wall early needs a lot of manpower, knowledge of the game, or be willing to do a lot of trading.

Other than what's been posted here already, you should read through threads like this: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=34658. There's always a good story. They usually include the mistakes other new players are making and lots of advice on what to do differently.

Settling direct at rivers is a no go in most areas.

Before you settle check a greater radius of the area. Don't settle in areas where you encounter a lot of abandoned places.

Don't settle right next to other claims unless you're invited to do so - think about people might want to enlarge their claims.

Don't start by chopping down trees without using them right away. Chop selective and not just at one spot.

Before you start to build a house have Yeo and a claim up. It's even better to have a Pallisade up before you build a house.

Better not build on mudflats, heath, moor or grassland - you might anger people that are foraging curios there.

At this point in the game, established players should have their own private grasslands around them to forage on that is likely better quality than anywhere else they'll find around them (because they settled on the best quality soil they could find and all that grassland from all the chopped down trees).

Some (few) established players share curio spots with all and try to keep them open ;)
