I've done my claim and looking to set up a cabin for sole sericulture reasons, but I need a cave, which I can't find anywhere near me.

I have almost every seed, a sling, a stable source of leather and beer or wine. My curios supply is usually a mantle, or a frogs crown if I get lucky. So what's next?

Yes a cave is nice but you don't need it. You can build a minehole to get to level 1. It will be more difficult than an existing entrance but it is doable. Once you are underground you may run into natural caves to explore. If you plan to do cheese I suggest you wall it off in an underground room as well.
