First death.

Postby slowpoke68 » Sat Feb 01, 2014 2:40 pm

So I switched over to this game from Salem and am trying to figure out some of the concepts that appear to be a bit different.

I died clicked on my old character's tombstone to inherit. It said my exp mod is now 4. But I notice I am not getting credit for doing things as far as discoveries or learning goes. Just trying to figure out what the deal is with a second character. Should I have not inherited? Is that is what is causing me not to get lp for doing different things like I did with the first toon?

Thanks.

Discoveries are inherited. When you are noob it is a bad thing, when you are more advanced it's a pain to discover everything again.
When you inherit, you can not for example discover a branch again.

One more thing, you didn't get a ton of LP for doing that, a bug made it so when you inherited you didn't get any LP visually, but when you discovered something it refreshed and you saw all your LP from inherit.

Have been playing for a few days and thought I would post my experience so far.

I have to say I am liking the game.

I have died a couple of times so far but am being careful and lucky more than anything I think. So far I have yet to see another person around my area, but see evidence of people being around. Also I have found some pretty big settlements farther away.

I pretty much followed the stickied newbie guide and have exploration up to 15 and surv and UA up to 10. My attributes are from 11-15 at this point. With the newbie defense system I have an area walled off and staked, although I can't build a palisade yet. Luckily I found some www's and have some things growing in my garden. No carrots though yet! Also I am enjoying making leather armor.

I think I want to focus on farming and maybe animal taming/raising. Trying to decide where to put my skill points now. Lots of useful information and I have been googling a lot.

One thing I do wonder about, I have seen people staking weird claims that are almost all on water, some blocking rivers. Why do people do this?

Because those are quality nodes and they don't want to share.

It's not always because not wanting to share but to prevent the nodes from being depleted by Griefers, Greedies or just by ppl that don't know better ... from my experience you can't leave nodes just open for everyone to share ... sad but true ... claiming makes it possible to track when depleted or q downed very heavy ... appropriate action can be taken like informing Newbies that it's not wanted and to offer to give them rights on claim ...

Hello all. Right now I have all my attributes between 12 and 16, except cha and psy. Is it ok to blow those two off? I don't plan on being a leader or anything. With this guy I am looking at being a hermit focusing on farming exploring and maybe taming/raising animals at some point.

I have Explore at 23, surv at 22, farming at 12, ua at 10 and sewing at 7.

One question I have. In guides and posts I have seen they talk about there being a cap on surv of 300, or there being no reason to go above 300. Is that actually having your skill at 300 as in I have 278 points left to gain? I have read other posts that seem to indicate a skill of 300 would actually be surv at 30. Also when they talk about people having a str of 486, is that like 465 points more than me, or does that actually mean their str is 46 and change? Just wondering about this.

Thought I would update people as to a total newb's progress who is enjoying the game. Thanks much.

Don't worry about having 300 survival yet, but yes, that is 278 points left to gain.
486 is palibash strength - the amount needed to make a palisade down by hand, but good gear adds about 200 str, so likely about 300str and change.

You won't need any csm, or large amounts of str.
The most important stats for you right now are intel and perc, to study more, and do more damage with a sling/see more forragables.
