When someone is far away, following someone will point to different direction than that of arrow.
Now the part that I forgot:
Should I follow the arrow or follow command pull?

The arrow is usually very inaccurate. Clicking on their portrait in your party will make you move directly toward them though.

Pretty much this. Never follow the arrow, always click the portrait, never trust the X on the map for their location. The X on the map points in their direction, but often incorrect due to grid displacement.

Also, clicking the portrait won't work if you or they are indoors.

Or if they are on a different depth than you (if you're on the surface and they are in a level 2 minehole etc), but if you're both in a level 1 cave it'll work etc.
