Interested in Trades But What is Points?

I've been using the forums so far to solve all the problems I've reached so far. But now I've come across a problem that I can't seem to find an answer to even after a lot of searching and googling. What are these "Points" that people speak of frequently in their trade demands?

P.S. I wouldn't have posted this if I hadn't already searched and not found someone who posted it before me. So if someone has a smart ass comment that "it is on the 700th page" they bugger off cause I won't bother to read rude things that they decide to flame on me.

Points are just an abstract convention people on these forums created as a measurement of value. For instance:

1 fresh bear = 50 points (on average)
1 q10 pearl = 50 pts
1 flotsam = 20 points (average)
1 glimmermoss = 5 points (average)
etc...

When looking at a trade thread, scroll down to see what the OP is buying. He/she will usually list the items they are buying, and how many points they are worth to them. It makes it easier to calculate prices. So when you're trading, its easier to say "I have 150 points" rather than "I have a bear, a pearl, a flotsam, and 6 glimmermosses."

Two tidbits of advice: Fresh, unbutchered, unskinned bear carcasses are multitudes more valuable to traders than bear pelts/meat, and make sure you have a village idol set up before engaging in trades. Good luck (y)

Uhhh how do i keep it from decaying? If I don't butcher it?

You don't. You sell it within 8 hours of the kill.
