Why can't I build a house here?

Title. I can't seem to put down the signpost to build a house in this area;

The tooltip says it needs a 3x3 paved area, and that's exactly what it has there, yet I can't build it. Same goes for the 5x5 paved area I made for a timber house beside it; I can't get the timber house construction to appear.

Yeah, the wall is the issue(or whatever else is there, but 99.999% chance to be a wall anyway)

Edit; I just tried paving another three so I could place it without it touching my pali, and still it won't place, this time with the message "you cannot build that there". wtf?

I got it working there, but the thing is I wanted to make a cabin, and a timber house, and there isn't enough room in my pali if I need to double the amount of paving I need to do.
I guess I'll just have to make a timber house.
