Tracking/Ranging

Postby jewjitsu_master » Wed Mar 26, 2014 2:37 pm

I am a somewhat new player with a small group(most of which have given up the game) and this is our first experience being stolen from  . The perpetrator must be a more-advanced character since he bashed down a few palisade walls without a battering ram. Anyways, we were able to successfully gain a couple scents of theft, vandalism, and trespassing. Apparently the thief has no hearth fire, so my friend tried to summon him, and the game says he's already dead. So, being the dumbass that I am, I decided to go after his body. When I track him, I get a full 180degree arrow marker which only gives me a shit-sense of direction of where he is. I've been tracking his body and my stuffies for at least 30mins to an hour and the arrow hasn't changed much at all.

Anyways, the real question I want to ask is, why is he dead?
*Is it a tactic to have an alt come in and steal instead of using a main account so that you can kill it and leave a fake trail? The problem with this is that the one that vandalized the wall should be his main account because of the high STR requirement, right?
Or is it more likely that he just died of another retarded cause?

*Should I even be tracking him, since I'm a newer player and would likely get my ass kicked when fighting another player?

I'm just really new to this experience and don't know how to deal with it very well, so any advice would really be appreciated.

Wide arrow means your perc*exp is a lot lower than perp's int*stealth. You can try to narrow it down by tracking few times while standing on the same spot. When criminal is dead, you're tracking his body. It can be at any place not related to his real base. Since it was a palibasher, he probably got tracked and killed or just died in a fight with enemies, his body most likely was taken by his allies or his enemies as a trophy. So I doubt tracking will give you something at this point.

The pie arrow that comes out is based on your perception and exploration versus his stealth and intelligence. The reason why you get a huge 180 degree arrow is because your perc*exp is much lower than his int*stealth. The reason why the arrow didn't change direction is because he is probably really far away, as the game-world is FUCKING HUGE. The reason why it says the perp is dead is, well, because he died. Most likely he was summoned and killed for his crimes, or just simply tracked down while online like the criminal dog he was. Get your perception and exploration to at least 100 each and you can track most criminals.

As for fighting him, if he was a palisade basher, you probably stood no chance. Just be glad someone else killed him for you.

EDIT: Grapefruit, the ninja.
