Protect Cave Entrance

Hey

I claimed a Large Place by a cave entrance, and i plan to build a palisade gate directly in front of it. Just 2 Cornerposts and a Gate - so that when i open the gate i can walk in the cave. I can place the Cornerposts at the cliff so you cant walk by. Is that a stupid idea or is this a plan to secure that spot? i walled in a large area around the entrance with a pali wall and don't want to lose it. When i'm able i plan to build a brick wall too.

Would be nice to hear your suggestions and some experiences :)

As long there are no Palibasher coming around 2 CPs and gate (on claimed ground) is a good protection - if there are other cave entrances leading into that cave you'd need to protect them in same manner ...


btw your SIG is much too big - about 70px height max rules say ...

You should either put the wall on the inside of the cave, or a tile or two away from the exit.
if someone comes from the inside and lands in the gate then they can use the fourth speed to get out of the gate.
As borka said too, that only protects you if no palibashers come a knocking.
idealy you wouldn't have any caves or cliffs bordering or inside your base.

You can't place a wall close to the exit inside because of the first unminable 50 walltiles and thus unpavable groundtiles.

AFAIK the 4th run speed only worked with BW gates (dunno if fixed meanwhile) not with Palligates (?!?) - you might put a second gate in front of the first to avoid ...

Good thing is that my entrance takes me to a dead end and through a long tunnel, so i can build several pali gates inside the cave to protect it from inside.

Im currently checking the inside and didn't find other entrances so far. The system is very large and i randomly found some ore...

I also discovered that you can queue movements (with enders client) with alt+shift leftclick. (was new to me, i freaked out a lil, just a lil :)

It works with any 1xX object - BW corners or segments, Pali corners or segments, hearth fires ect.

Raupe, be careful that you build it in such a way that it can't be mined around.
And it's just shift + leftclick, no need for alt.

Related to a gate just by the cave entrance, I think there is needed 2 parallel gates or need to separate them by at least one tile from the entrance, because I remember smthing about a bug. Besides if the wall is parallel to the clif where the cave entrance is I think there are skilled players that move somehow in diagonal and get in between the wall and the clif (I was never able to do it :( ).

I think you can build one lonely corner post or place a statue or banner just on the entrance and it works. Ofc the CP needs claim to not decay and the auth. objects require a village claim. I saw XCom blocking caves this way, and he tested a lot.

But there has been some time since I played so maybe things changed and maybe someone actually playing can confirm or correct me.
