Can someone point me to a guide on how to track in this game? I cant seem to understand the pie slice and the directions the game is giving me. Thanks in advance!

When a hearthling leaves a scent, a hearthling can pick up that scent infinite times, however there cannot be same scent in the same inventory/container.
The scent loses charges over time, and once it hits 0 it disappears. The scent, when picked up, also loses charges when you attempt to track a stolen item, perpetrator or hearth fire of the perpetrator.
You can or can not see the scent depending on the difference between the perpetrator's stealth*intelligence, and your perception*exporation. The same difference applies for the width of the pie slice. It is wider the less per*exp you have, and the more int*stealth he has.
When you render the perpetrator's hearth fire, you can summon him by left-clicking the scent and right-clicking his hearth fire, then pressing "Summon" in the dialog, provided the scent is theft, vandalism, battery or murder. You can not summon via trespassing or assault scents, meaning you can leave them and log off with no chance of getting summoned, however they can still be used to find the location of your HF if you're offline, and both the location of your HF and your character's location if online. If it's a theft scent, or a trespassing scent left by lifting an object in a claim, the stolen/lifted item is also trackable.
Hope that clears things up.
I should also add: Being able to see a scent isn't "binary", there's a chance you can see it, meaning if you have just enough per*exp to have a very small chance to see a scent, if you render it and unrender it infinite times, you will see it. You can also equip and unequip dowsing rod, for the same effect.
Also, if the perpetrator has no hearth fire and the scent is one that can be used to summon, you can summon the perpetrator anywhere and he dies on the spot. Disabling criminal acts when summoning makes you not leave an assault scent.
One more thing: If your question is the direction and delta in a little window you get, that's not the game, it's a custom client like Ender's. the delta is the degree of the pie slice width, and the direction is simply the direction, in which, I think, 0 means north (which is up-right). I could be wrong, maybe 0 is just up (which is northwest).

Thank you for the replies and the information on direction. How I properly use the pie slice? Do I use the point closes to my character or the curve?

The pie slice is all possibiliies of the direction, otherwise it wouldn't make much sense to implement the pie slice feature at all now, would it?
