How long do chicks take to grow up in a coop?

I've read 3 days, is that IRL or ingame?
And they can either grow into chickens or cocks, right?

Alright, I don't think this is worth a new thread, really, but I have another chicken question.

When it grows up, which squares does it's new body take up? I need to know for the most efficient chicken raising. :geek:

When the chick matures it will occupy any empty 2x2 squares in the coop. So you could have the top or bottom half of the coop full of chicks and when they mature they just jump to the 2x2 empty square closest to the top left of the coop.
