What is your UA and MC? I would think around 40ua is good for a fox starting out. I would practice on ants if you don't know what you're doing at all, though.

Sadly you can't attack the ents.

No, they will just move away from the fire. ;)

A straight new hearthling can't take on any "enemy" right away. If you've bought skills for some combat moves that's a start, but you need to upgrade your Unarmed Combat incremental skill (in your character sheet). How how these go up varies to player skill and knowledge of the combat system, but in general you want 10~ to fight ant swarms, 30~ to fight a fox, ~100 to fight boars, ~180 for deer, and ~300+ for bear. Herd animals varies on how many there are, you usually shouldn't pick fights with them unless you have them in pens.

Practice the combat system on a single ant swarm to get a feel of it; you don't just attack then watch numbers go up, you have to deal with balancing all your combat factors while depleting your opponent's defense to make a meaningful strike.
Hearthlings: Marona; Chamberlain (retainer alt), Vincavec (shaman of the Dryad Wells Forest)
