How do I use my boat?

Idiotic question, but Ive just made my lovely little boat...How do I actually use it? "Avast!" doesnt do anything...

EDIT: now I lifted it and...accidently put it in someone else's land...And can't lift it again...

avast should do something if the boat is in the water. and you're supposed to be able to pick your boat up... idk man

You have to pick the boat up and put it down in the water. It has to be centered there.
Unless your neighbor is around, your boat is dead. Too bad.
