The higher your melee combat skill is, the more weight your melee attacks will have (Sting, Chop, Valorous Strike, Cleave). So, yes, the more you have the more defense you can hit through, but what shubla meant by "maybe" is that it depends on the person you're attacking. If you have 100 MC, the person you're fighting would have to have only 42~ UA (if using dodge maneuver) for you to hit through their whole defense with a valorous strike.

also what attack ur using, melee combat doesnt affect your dodging and your punching so you if not using shield and if yes using punch you're gonna have a bad time

You want to have about twice the ua as you do mc at your level. so 100 mc and 200ua will be alright.
