How to make a cellar

I know that I saw a thread that explained this once, but I can't find it. If someone could attach the thread, and/or explain the process (the public resource site doesn't do this sufficiently), I would be quite grateful. Thanks.

Get locksmithing skill to place the construction site. Build the cellar hatch with 1 common metal bar and some boards and blocks (forgot the exact number, but it's not that much). Wield a pick, right click on hatch to dig out a boulder. Once you dig out 16 boulders, the cellar is complete and you can enter it. That's for cabin, mansion is IIRC 24 boulders.

Anywhere in the cabin. I recommend placing it near entrance, to reduce distance you have to walk to get to your cellar.

I had a friend make the construction site, do I have to actually have the skill in order to dig it out?

Mansion is 48 cellar boulders, Potjeh.
