Advice for Beginner's

Hello and welcome to Haven!

This is not your average MMO. If you are expecting such, seriously consider how you tread in this game. There are those who will attempt to harm you for no reason. That said there are also many wonderful people if you are friendly and sincere.

I'm quite sure you will have many questions and want details on some things. The developers have not completed a full glossary of items and actions as of yet so you will have to rely upon player created sources or the tidbits scattered across the forums.

Haven & Hearth is in a very long Alpha state. The developers are currently working on a major update. They will announce their progress in the Announcements topic. So check there for game new and discussion. Do not expect developer intervention in most cases. Short of something radical they will not likely do so.

main tip for beginners. YOU WILL DIE. It will only be because you are a player. You may lose everything multiple times and NO amount of whining will get your character resurrected.

This. This is the truth. I hermited for several worlds before playing with other players in a village and it was night and day. The differences are immense compared to hermiting with a single friend or even two, when compared to living in a village of 5 or more people.

Also, without a defined purpose, the new player is most likely to just stop playing or move on. Same goes for a long term player or veteran....

There are a few basic principles for new people.

First only give your Hearth Secret out to those you absolutely trust. Even then keep your Hearthfire inside a building so no one can spawn a new character from it. There are griefer's out there.

Criminal acts are not something you should use unless you know what your doing. Unless you want to partake in raiding and theft I would suggest you never use them. If you do however realize only trespassing does not allow a person to summon you. All other scents allow summoning. Now before you begin thinking I will just trespass to get across that big claim, know trespass scents can allow people to track you to your hearthfire or you if you are online.

Large claims...well all I can say is there are some huge ones out there. Try not to cross them unless you have to or you see no village on them. Leaving scents on unknown villages land only means they need to find out who's doing it. Tracking you down to find out your not a threat may or may not go well.

As much as some of you want to meet new people, if you are new, try to get your feel for the game first and stay out of sight. There good people out there but you never know who you will meet. That said be friendly, honest, and sincere. It will take you far.

As with the first tip if you have gotten to your first village idol do not oath people blindly or give people crossroads into your village. You really have to know people for such permissions.

sure, its never a good idea to spam your hs in public, but, what you could suggest instead is to clean/erase the hs given every time (or change it all the time). i dont think you should try to remove their opportunity to make friends by kinning. afaik, the newer they are, the more they use this feature. also, making new players too paranoid to refuse a kin request from a neighbor does not sound friendly to me, id probably take it rather suspicious, although i dont have a habit of asking around for one myself.
