First things first you likely want to get your hands on some leather by picking up and murdering poor bunny rabbits, then preparing and tanning their skins. Then you can make your first backpack. As you get access to more leather and some wax you can make Traveller's sacks. Finally, once you have access to a fair bit of silk you can make Merchant Robes.

It's important for a Traveller's sack to be at least quality 20 to ensure that it adds substantially more space.
