Is it worth to play this game?

Postby hadouuuuuken » Tue Dec 16, 2014 8:58 am

Hello guys, hello memers

I play haven&hearth since 4 days now and yesterday I started to read the forum posts.
Nearly every topic is "being raided need help " or something like that. Im now scared to play haven , because i dont want to spend 100 hours to build a nice home just to get raided by some russian dickheads(it seems that russians and germans are the reaiders) im german but dont want to raid or kill people :O .
On my first day i met another hearthling(his name was seb01234567 , maybe someone of you know him?) who was really kind and he teached me many things. He was friendly and shipped me far away from spawn area . It was my only encounter with other players .
What can i do to not get raided and is it common to get raided ?

thx for ya answers m8s

If you build a brickwall and do ram checks on your home every 12 hours or so, it's almost impossible to get rammed unless they bubble it, make sure to seal brickwall corner posts

Whether it's worth it or not is up to you. This game is a full pvp, full destruction perma death survival game. We can argue the semantics of it all but at the end of the day some guy can walk by and stab you at any point in time. If the prospect of losing things is so offputting that you can't enjoy the game at all, then you have your answer.

Avu made an excellent, even if dated, guide to maximizing your survivability in the hearthlands.

It breaks down to: get walls up and minimize your footprint. Make it difficult for raiders to find you and if someone does spot you, make it enough of a nuisance that they don't want to bother with you. You can explore the specifics by reading his guide. =)

A lot of people seem to complain about 'thicket' terrain (shows up as beige on the mini-map, lots of trees, you can see overgrown vines everywhere up close). This works out in your favour if where you live is surrounded by it, because a lot of players(especially those who like to play fast and hard) will avoid it on principle.

The absolute best advice I can give you regarding raiders is to not build near a river or lake. The closer your home is to a waterway, the easier and more enticing your home is to raiders. If you use a well as your water source instead, and people boating by can't see what you've constructed on the mini-map, you're at least ten times safer than you would be otherwise--possibly much more, if you live somewhere they don't even know might be inhabited, or in a thicket, as above.

@TeckXKnight: Hahaha, that's a pretty damn hostile guide.

There are lots of us that play a peaceful game so it is possible and not every hearthling is a raider, all the above points are ofc, very applicable, you will most definitely die at some point and will most likely get raided, you will need brickwalls and being as inconspicuous as possible whilst you achieve all this will greatly increase your chances of success.

But, if you feel like you can live with an element of danger and take the risk, now is a pretty good time to start playing, the world becomes a lot more sedate as time goes on, there is more space and less encounters with fewer people playing, provided ofc, you have chosen your location well. There are still plenty of resources to be had, despite what others would have you believe, and many abandoned bases from which to retrieve 'goodies', lol, you will need a bit longer in game for those that are still pclaimed but even those are accessible eventually.

I vote play! :D

yeah i play it and its lot of fun :) lets see when i get my first raid... I live far away from every water ,thats what my friend seb told me .

But im unfortunately alone . hope that minimize the chance of raiding and stuff .

i have another question. when i find abandoned base. how can i be sure it is realy abandoned ? i dont want to leave scents

and why the hack are everywhere baskets and hearthfires :O this is crazy i mean i dont see a singleland without runestones/hearthfires/baskets

Because all it takes to spawn a hearthfire is to make a new character. Tens of thousands of players spawn a character and just never get very far for whatever reason. Baskets and Runestones also take very little to make and can be done within minutes of joining the game.

Identifying an abandoned base is simple, see if you can perform actions on it without turning on criminal acts. You can't leave criminal scents without turning on criminal acts. Inactive personal claims will allow you to enter them and act on them without criminal acts. Try to drop useless items on village claims and if you can pick them back up without criminal acts then it's considered an inactive village due to low authority.

If you play regularly and play smart, you will be invincible. However, you will eventually slip up and lose everything that you've worked for. You have to be ok with starting over if you want to play this game long-term. Of all the people I know, I've died the least, but I've still had to start from scratch 5 times since I first played. Here I am though, still playing.

Think of it this way:
You're thinking about playing a game where there's no such thing as "griefing", permanent destruction of your property is an intended mechanic. If you want to play in such a game, go ahead. If you want your peace and quiet farming and crafting, only doing PvP if you "enable it", then this game is probably not for you.
Play smart, play stupid, play however you like, doesn't change the fact that this game is MADE that way so losing everything you have is very possible. Whether or not you manage not to die, do you really want it to be a possibility?

You will die multiple times and you will never be completely safe.
Just make sure that you learn something with every death :)
