Depends which strike.
You need enough weight of the hit to penetrate through the defence and enough strength to deal more or equal to the bear's maximum health.

well let's do some math

Punch damage is 50 * sqrt(str / 10).
Bears hp = Level*80

Assuming max level bear and exactly zero defense bar, that's 800 hp.

50 * sqrt(2560 / 10)

50 * sqrt(256)

50 * 16 = 800

This also assumes neutral martial/peaceful slider.
(this strength has been achieved by multiple people).

At almost 2 years in on the world now, I would hope so. There were brick wall bashers in w3 when it was still possible, and if I recall right, it ran about a year. (If I recall right, that was about 4k STR.)

You forgot the bonus damage from using knuckles or gauntlets. That counts, too, and makes the needed strength even less, not to mention the bonus from Knock (2x STR). You also forgot you only do 75% damage with unarmed now

Damage got nerfed in w5 to 75% for all unarmed attacks. No, I don't mean weight. I don't recall that it was restored, but haven't been actively playing the current world, so it might have been and don't know it. If so, I will stand quite corrected (and the wiki needs an update).
