How do I make brick/paliside walls in caves?

I am trying to make a cave home, but i dont understand how I make walls in a cave.

Pave the ground with stone first. Also you can't build anything within 30 tiles of a cave entrance.

Why can I not pave the side of the caves? it says I can't

You might be too close to a cave entrance. If by the "side" you mean the blackness, that's solid rock.

You need to cut out the natural walls before you can start paving the cave floor. Two or three tiles in should do

50 tiles normally

you can count tiles with CTRL+L (click on cave entrance themn move mouse - window shows tile count) - then look where the closest spot is where you're able to dig

example from last world how a cave wall can look (southern CPs are on the first diggable spots)

as you can't pave next to cave wall you'll have to work with segments and extra CPs
