What determines the Quality of planted trees?

Postby CG62 » Wed Dec 02, 2009 5:59 am

I recently planted two Ql. 18 saplings.

I took a branch off of one of 'em (they've grown large enough for me to do that) and it was Ql. 4.

Sooooo... does the regent deity of Lake Flaccid hate my insignificant trees? Or is my sapling of laughable quality?

Wait until they're fully grown.

From what I've read it is everything involved in the tree process. The soil, the water, The tree pot, the herbalist table and your farming skill + the quality of the tree seed?

Mine have steadily been improving in the following manner. I lucked up and had a q68 fir on my claim, so I began with seeds from it, as my trees have grown and improved (averaging about 50 now) I cut them down and rebuild the herbalist table with the wood while still taking seeds and replanting from the q68 fir. I have been steadily increasing my farming skill as well as remaking the tree pots as my Dex has risen.

So although I don't know if everything involved in the process matters, I have been "assuming" it does and increasing everything in the above calculation when I can and my trees have been steadily improving in quality. Now the orchards around my claim are averaging 45-50 from where they began with the first batch of saplings which was about 35.

You wont know the final quality until they are fully grown, THEN take a branch and see the quality.

what kill affects the herb table, is it construction or farming? or neither?

i saw this on the quality thread
Survival limits:
- arrows, bone saw
- quality of herbs
- skinningand butchering; quality = (Survival +Tool quality)/2.
- bone quality only affected by survival
The effect of survival is capped at 200. {©Blaze}

when it says quality of herbs is affected by survival, what does that mean, is it the fungus i pick from the ground?

What affects the QL of a planted tree : Dirt QL, Seed QL, Pot QL, water QL, your farming skill when you actually plant the seed in the pot, and the QL of the table.

Table QL is affected by board/block/fiber QL and carpentry. Survival doesn't come into play at all.

The exact formula is still up for debate.

Nature/Industry doesn't seem to affect QL at all but will reduce the number of seedlings that survive.

yes, if there are herbs of higher q than your survival skill their q will be softcapped by your skill
