How do I deal with thieves?

Both yesterday and today some nice guy stole some of my stuff... yesterday they took the metal tools (hammer, pickaxe, coins and a silk thread). That hit me hard, because I am a semi-noob and don't have a mine yet. However I can stand a one time robbery, i tried to follow the scents my friend was able to pick but it seems to be quite far, and I finally decided to leave it alone for this time.

Today I was robbed again, they took chantrelles (!!!). Now I am quite pissed off; I admit I don't have a palisade, because I thought that anyone who would have liked to break in could have destroyed it, and also i thought that my med-low q stuff wasn't that interesting.

So the question is: what can I do to avoid my claim to be a supermarket? Is a simple palisade enough?

If someone is willing to follow the scents and try to took my stuff back, I think can offer some linen and in the next days also some cheese and a silk thread. Anyhow I would just prefer to know how to defend myself, considering I am quite a casual gamer.

EDIT: me and my friends followed the scents, and we arrived to the croissant village (sorry for the trespass), and there was an assault scent. Anyone from the croissant village attacked him? I hope it is not one of your members...

It is one of the pitfalls of the game, though I suppose some people find stealing, griefing and playing "Fanstasy hood/medieval gansta/rage griefing" "fun"...in a game this big with so much space it's overall juvenile adnd silly imo. But I understand your frustration. The REDICULOUS wood requirements for a palisade is just not worth the all the drama.

Someone did me today, though all they did was cut down my foundation tree, I don't even know if it was intentional, but since it was my highest Q tree and surrounded by my orchard it seems odd they would choose that specific one to cut down (in other words random a-hole griefing). It's the only time anything has happened to me in the 2 months I've been playing so I am hoping it is not a game killing "All the time" thing. GUess we'll just ave to see.

Maybe a group of high level rangers should form a mercenary group to be paid for going and taking revenge for people who do not wish to play that crap so that the more care-bear players have some sort of defense and will stick around instead of quiting.

As fr defense, just take on the chin if ya can and hope they go away..lol

yes, a palisade would help.

the normal thieves tend not to be strong enough. at least, its takes a lot of time. if you wanna be really safe, build a brick wall.
bricks can be destroyed aswell, some players can do it quickly, but they wouldnt care. its not worth the trouble for some med-q stuff.

and why did you give up ranging? range him/her and either tell her to give the stuff back or summon, if you dont want it to happen again. why would the thief stop if nothing happened?

Well I supposed I couldn't do much, since I don't have the aggression skills (yet, I am getting LP for them right now), and I supposed some empty threats wouldn't have had much effect.
Anyhow some time ago I actually followed the lead, but it led to an house in a village (Croissant Village) where there was a body with assault scent and someone sleeping. I sincerely didn't know what to do, except to ask for someone from that village here and on IRC (no answers), so I came back to build my palisade

That would have been the chance to stab him shitless in blind rage. And pound his head good with your regotten hammer for the irony.

The problem is, I have no idea what happened - and I'm the lawspeaker of Croissant :roll:

The house that the scents lead to belongs to our new villager that I barely know. Considering that now he's lying dead on the floor, there's somebody sleeping in his bed, and there's lots of new stuff in his cupboard... well, I'll make sure to make it all clear as soon as possible (i.e. when I'll have the chance to talk to the new guy).

Desyrio, sorry to hear someone from our village stole something from you. I'll talk to him if I get a chance. What I'm wondering about is who's body lies on the floor and who sleeps in the bed?

Well, apart from the hammer and pickaxe, which i really would like to have back if you find them (they were around q30), I only would like to know any news, in particular if the thief has been caught or murdered... so I can relax a bit and enjoy it

In the meantime I am getting the Rage skill for further use :twisted:
