Prospecting question

Postby Rhiannon » Fri Dec 11, 2009 1:18 pm

So I was in a mine, and prospecting and the message came up "copper 56% of usable". Can someone give me a little idea what this message means? I know that it means a mine is somewhere near but what about the 56% thing?

And another question as to what you would do (I think lost cause). I found this by accident just out on a ramble. But since you have no dream to build a hearth fire, no yarn for a dream catcher, you cant get anything between characters. Can't call or teleport to anyone (or anywhere) and back again. your 4 maps out from the supergrid. Exactlly what would you do any suggestions? Or is a lost cause and u found the approx location of a mine and it's just wasted?..lol

carry dreams/wool whenyou go out searchin?
56% means your 440 tiles away from a mine.

Well, being bloody minded, I would be unwilling to give up what would be a half decent copper mine. Hanging on to the mine would make an interesting challenge. So I would take the time and effort to blaze a path back to the main supergrid so I could find this location again. Of course I would have to blaze it very subtley so no other player could follow the trail back but me.... This would be likely to take several days of play. Assuming you know the general direction of the main supergrid I would start walking steadily in that direction, carrying a boat so that I could travel by the compass and cross rivers.

Your other option is to camp on the spot, make a little homestead, prospect for rustroot to get the exact location for the mine, and between times explore so you know the area well enough you will recognize major landmarks. You can use these to get other people to your mine, if you want. You would have to use aurochs instead of wheat for con, and sheep instead of grapes for charisma... but you could work at it until you had 100 bars of copper in two chests in a boat before you started back to civilization.

You can always just blaze the spot, wander in a spiral crosschecking you can get back until you find a heath or grassland and then wait for sheep, shear one and make a spinning wheel, trek back to your soon-to-be copper mine, make a dream catcher, and then make a hearth fire.

There are several ways you could go about this, if you were stubborn.

Well, this is what I'm trying, I know the way back, I was on my alt and had decided to just "let me see if I can walk to the end of hthe world"..lol I went in a straight line from alts claim and went across 4 maps. Thankfully I didn't do any wandering but had been going pretty much a stright line. It was weird because I wasnt looking for anything really, I was just bored and seeing if I could walk to the edge of the maps in 1 direction. I have no clue why I stopped and prospected where I did or what me check behind those trees and discovered that cave (as I said, I had went across 4 maps and only prospected once on a clay field the whole time..lol) So this is what I'm trying now, I warped my alt back to my village, made another boat (left my other where I was) grabbed some supplies (wool, yarn, dream, stuff for a straw bed), wrapped my head in gauze as I had been knocked out 10 times on this little walkabout..lol, and set back out to retrace my path back to where I found it. THEN THE SERVER CRASHES WHILE ALL THE DIRECTIONS AND LANDMARKS ARE STILL CLEAR IN MY MIND!!!!. But hopefully since I had went in a straight line it wont be hard to find again when the server comes back up. I just dread the long overland walk with a boat on my head dodging lvl 10 animals (Of which there are too many). So here's to hoping I can make it. I hate restarting a claim but then again why have 2 characters that are both uber farmers..lol I can just turn this alt into a miner and experience that part of the game I hope. My main can be the farmer and hopefully now my alt will provide a mine for my village now.

You could just walk to the nearest heath and wait for some sheep to spawn. And then make a dream catcher and hearth fire.

Well actually I made it back, and was thrilled, BUT, I don't know if it's a honor or a serious flaw...but I have been playing games for a LONG (way too long) time and I do have to say that I hvae never been given a serious migrane by a game before and I've played some frustrating bugged out disaters (specially beta tesing). I walked for about 2 hours in the cave of twisting winding crap with nothing but a torch trying to keep track. Closest I came at dead ends was 76%. Yet of course outside the prospect says nothing, so I suppose it doesnt read outside the cave, I see no other cave formations anywhere in the vicinity. Aside from the one I'm in. It's just the most rediculous thing I've ever encountered. I suppose it means rthere is no mine in that cave and supposedly is in a near formation? After all how far away would 76% be? Total migraine and just rediculous imo. SO not sure what to do as far as continuing to look for it. And that doesn't count the "Strange" occurance that when first arriving in the area there was no animals only now to be cluttered with lvl 10 animals everywhere in my vinicinity. I could relate quite a few colorful curse words about the situation but rediculous covers most of it.

I had a similar encounter with an iron mine. I, however, scoured the countryside, mapping as I went, and managed to find the entrance after a long and, admittedly frustrating, search. Jubilation ensued.

The countryside? But the prospecting works outside the cave? Because it is awful strange that inside the cave door it says 56% outside the cave door it says no minerals found. SO doesn't work for me. Which is the top reason the word rediculous and migrane comes into play. I thought it was gonna be a fun endeavor but ..not. No fun factor here. Just seems alot of work and for nothing If it said 76% in the cave , how far does that leave for the mine to be? how far is what? 240 tiles? Shouldnt there be a formation pretty close?

If you prospect a mine in a caveit means the mine is somewhere in the cave. Most players find that unless it's gold or silver mines in caves are generally worth mining. Even jorb's iron mine proved to be pretty much worthless.
