newbie first impression

so i thought id try this game
at first walked around for half hour trying to learn basics of movement and surroundings and UI but couldnt find anything to do or interact with so quit.
next day thought i would give it another go but walking over half an hour again, still no progress, quit.
later on searching this forum, i read some guides and found what newbie should do to start earning LP;
"Rightclick a tree, Take Branch until you're full, and build a campfire." etc
well... thinking back..cant recall seeing any trees but hey have another go, at least i have something to look for.
another half hour walk, omg finally found some trees..next to the starting point but... cannot interact with them
/throws arms up in the air

dont know what else to do so last ditch effort is to yell for help /sigh

You should get a menu when you right click the tree. Although the ones near the start are probably on other peoples land. Keep walking east till you hit a forested area, should take about 15-20 minutes walking.

Every newbie spawn point has been asininely deforested by griefers. You have to hike quite a fair ways out before you will find a tree.

more like, north east... theres a road going from the ring, 3 tiles wide, if you find it and follow it for 10 minutes or so, you come to forest area...

all the other ways are pretty much blocked by claims and stuff...

the ones i saw were protected by brodgar land or gave no menu
i went south till i hit water and then west following the water which then took me north and back to start, found nothing but mess and shrubs :\

will try other way

You have to go north through Brodgar.
