Bread dough.

Postby Alamarian » Thu Dec 17, 2009 7:38 am

I realize this will sound stupid but how do I make bread dough? I've got wheat flour and water, I understand from the wiki I need to combine them in a "container." Which container and how? I've tried using buckets, jars, and things like that. What am I missing?

Craft->cooking->baking->bread No extra container is required. Have the flour and a bucket with water in inventory and click craft.

have water in a container, like bucket, flask, or waterskin, have that container and flour in your inventory. go to craft, cooking, baking, bread. press craft button. then put the dough in the oven and add 3 branches and light it. you need the baking skill.

I knew it was something simple like that. Thanks. Just made my first piro. Whew? Whew.

You can add less sticks depending on the Q of said sticks, I think.
I.e if you have a >150 Q stick, that'll be enough to fuel the oven for the same time as 3 50Q sticks. Not entirely sure though.

Seems unlikely. As a newbie all my sticks at 10q and it takes me 3 sticks which means any veteran player would always burn the bread with one stick. Not sure what stick quality effects with bread but it's not time.

Without saying too much (which I've been advised against) I managed to cook bread with one Q.167 stick I found and the bread was fine.

I stand corrected then. No idea how it works though unless it's some form of range (so 10ql are the same as 50ql for time and so on). The wiki mentions a bug that makes dough think it's already been cooked for the length of one stick if it's left alone in an oven too long (again no mention of quality), not sure if that bug still happens.

There's a bug with ovens (and smelters, kilns and finery forges), where items left inside will "cook" even if there's no fire. So, if you leave bread dough in an oven for two ticks (~6 minutes per tick) it will get baked with just one stick. It will never cook completely without the final branch, and the final branch will never burn it (so it's safe to light the oven with one branch even if the dough has been in there for days). This can be used to great effect in smelters, reducing your coal consumption by 75%. Not much point in saving branches since they're infinite, and if you just use the specified amount for baking (1 for honeybuns, 2 for cakes, 3 for bread, RoBs and pirogis) you don't have to keep track of time.

As for branch quality, fuel quality plays a big role in the quality of the finished product. Oven quality does too, so get yourself some good bricks ASAP.

this. the q of the branch has no effect on the time it burns/ you have to bake the dough. but it is an important factor in the quality of the baked goods.
