How do you create a mine? Can I even make one, or will I have to go to the starting area? I passed by a few places that looked like they had mines, but I can't figure out how to make one.

No. Just sit back and wait while a dev reads this thread, logs in and teleports to you. He will make a mine for you as the world has none yet.

So does this mean that, since the means of creating them normally isn't in yet, we can request that a mine be made somewhere? (Such as somewhere that is several rings away from the starting point... *cough*)

You're best off to pm a dev i think. When i got mine i was the only new player around..

I was asking if this is done at all mostly so I WOULDN'T be needlessly bothering a dev, should it not be the case. But I hear that some people in my group have already asked, anyway.

Basically all you do is:
1) Wait until a dev is online. (Or is it just Jorb who summons mines?)
2) PM them that you would like a mine and that you are online.
3) Wait a few minutes for them to show up, they are busy people after all.

Voilà. You have a mine.
