How do i get a mine???

I know you can get a mine in a cave but it is so hard to find one... but i saw an open pit mine where theirs just a hole in the ground with a ladder.
i am wondering how to do that but it wasn't on grass it was on this silver ground??? so i am wondering how do i do that??

You find mines by using rustroot extract. Using it will give you an estimation on how far away a mine could be. Mines can be on almost any terrain. Grassland, forest, mudflats, mountains and of course in caves.

This is sorta kinda off-topic, but if the Brodgar Iron Mine is open, can someone please allow me in, so that i may get some metals? I have bben trying to find my own mine, but with no luck. Me and my friend who is helping me are just SE of the Brodgar Iron mountain area, near the river on a very small walled in claim. Thank you
