your best bet is to get "wheelmaking" skill which will allow you to make a boat

Probably not safe.

I know someone who drowned at 80 cons crossing a river. He may not have picked the most narrow space of a narrow river, however. Things like lag suddenly appearing are the death of you. I'd estimate maybe a 90% probability of you making it happily to the other side.

you can probably cross a 4 tile river at 50 con, i wouldn't try it on anything bigger than that.

Well I know how deadly swimming is and blablabla. But you all are a little too cautious here, with con 50 you can swim through most rivers, 6-7 tiles should be no problem.

Burgingham is right. I have double that and can swim across a 18 tile river before getting to <10% stam.

Just make sure before you go across make sure it is not laggy.

I went across at well over 60con i got to shore and i fell down dead so just becareful to watch for lag or youll end up like me and cursing yourself over and over.

But funniest way to die would to be crossing a rivver and someone drives a boat and stops you >_>
