What skill decides leather quality?

Hey,
I was wondering what skill decides what quality the leather is you make or the quality of the skins you gather?

Raw skin is base quality (depends on animal type and level), axe quality and survival. IIRC dry skin q = raw skin q. Tanning doesn't involve any skills, it's just the quality of all the materials.

Cool, so the skill to put up would be survival?

exactly, plus your combat skill, obviously, as you get the highest hides only from x bears.

You'll need sewing to make good use of that leather, though.

Except for the items that aren't sewn together. You can probably guess which ones.
Nearly all sewing recipes use dexterity as well, and some of them also use psyche.

Yes...I do a lot of tanning. What you need is:

High combat, to kill high level animals.

High survival, to get good hide from the animals.

And high sewing, to make good products from the leather.

Additionally, you might want --

High Farming, to get the trees you need to get the boards you need to build good tubs and get good bark.

Also, you will need some great water, and a way to pay for it.

And yet, leather armor is pure crap in comparison to armors that require only high smithing...

yeah the leather torso armor is not so great if you have access to metal but leather pants and boots are pretty much the only option
