Finding wheat.

Postby Peripheral » Sun Jan 24, 2010 12:11 am

Hey. I know there are plenty of posts that are already concerning this, but the ones I looked at on search didn't seem to have a full answer. I know the only place to find wheat is on grassland, but is that the grassland which is completely green (IE player-planted grassland) or can it be the yellow and pink terrains as well? I haven't run into any civilization other then the odd hearth fire so far, so I won't be able to buy wheat from established players as far as I know of, else I already would've done that :) .

There is natural green grassland the same way there is pink grassland (heath) or yellow grassland (moor). The natural grassland looks the same as the player planted grassland. I have never found wild wheat or wild grapes anywhere but the green grassland.

Oh, didn't know there was natural green grassland. Gah, guess that's the one thing my place is missing. Oh well, time to explore a bit then ^_^. Wheat will also grow on player-planted grassland as well, right?

If it is on player planted grassland it is domestic wheat, not wild wheat.

The clumps of flax and hops and wheat and stuff are generated when the map is generated, like the trees and ridges. Once picked they are gone, the same as when the trees are cut. Players can replant but they will never spontaneously generate again.

One very good place to look for wheat is abandoned farms and settlements that belonged to other players. If you see a house on your minimap while exploring it is worth walking over to check in case there is an abandoned farm plot. Ploughed land appears white on the minimap, but of course the ploughing decays and after the farm has been abandoned long enough all the tiles will have reverted back to their original. The crops are likely to remain.

I just borrowed from neighbors. >_>

Also, the graphics for the heath terrain really looks like it *should* have wild wheat on it.

Hah, it does. That's probably what led me to believe that I was most likely to find it there >.>

I don't want to make new topic, so i ask in this.

Can grapes and carrots be encountered in the wild now?
And if yes, where?

Grapes can be found wild in grassland, the same as wheat. You might find one while looking for the other.

it is worth checking winepresses that have been abandoned. They may have grape seeds in them too.

Carrots are normally found in fir forest, but have been found in other areas. When you find them wild they are covered in white dots, and only produce seeds.
