I think the man means skills like Survival.

I believe it is survival to get higher quality furs (This hasn't seemed to have worked for me though).

Survival + cutting tool + higher level animals = better furs
carpentry + high q trees = better tanning tubs also better bark
high q water is a skilles job though
sewing + dex = better q leather products

no righteous man raises his hand against the innocent,
a man need only strike another to make him evil."

What skill (and its level) is needed to make tanning tub?
I am trying to find it, but even do not know in what part - crafting or where?

A tanning tub requires carpentry and leather working to make. It is made out of three planks. One plank takes up four empty vertical squares in inventory.

To find it look in the build menu. It's not under any of the subgroups. There should be a picture of a little round pale brown tub.

No level is needed in carpentry and survival to build a tanning tub. You can build one with carpentry 1 and survival 1 and a q5 bone saw. However it will be a bad q tub and produce bad q leather. If you are making a backpack this will not matter, since q does not effect the backpack. However later when you go on to try and make boots and leather pants and things the leather quality will matter. Your clothes will have more hit points to protect you with when they are made of higher q materials.

Do you have the carpentry skill, or have you just leveled up the skill carpentry? It's very confusing so this might be the issue. You might need to buy the skill carpentry the way you bought the skill leatherworking.

You may need to plow and pave the ground first.
