Torchpost lighting?

I couldn't find a post on how to light these damn things and I'm stumped, so formally... how do I light a torchpost?

i think you put a torch in it and then right click it and select "light"

leftclick a torch to pick it up, rightclick the post to set the torch in place, rightclick the post again to bring up the Light menu command

1. Right click it and click light.
2. Please read a taming guide. There are lots of these.
3. Catgold is another name for Fool's Gold.
4. You haven't discovered wax, hardened leather, rope, etc.
5. Nothing, spindley taproot, nettle, plant fibers, etc. are all string, you don't need to convert them to anything else.
6. You wouldn't be able to kill them even with weapons. Hunting is very different in this game to other games -- animals are all dangerous to fight and difficult to kill. They're more likely to kill you if you don't exploit their bad pathing. Learn how combat works first before expecting to kill things.

By mini torches I assume you mean handleheld torches, which is created with 1 linen cloth and 1 branch

Cows need to be tamed. A wild cow is known as an auroch (aurochsen for plural).

CatGold is just a pointless curiosity which is found when mining or chipping stone. There is no reason other than because the can (maybe to make people flip out with joy thinking they've got an amazing find)

I assume you're asking why you can't make a minehole. To make a minehole you must have the prospecting skill, and have discovered all the materials necessary to make it.

You can always create a sling using leather from rabbit fur to start hunting, or if you dare, you can use unarmed combat or melee combat.
