Find Clay

I started by the deer symbol and have worked my way to the edge of the forest northeast of there. I have checked more than a dozen of the river tiles for clay, but no success. I am try to orient myself using http://www.maplib.net/map.php?id=6075 but I can not figure out where am.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Clay is everywhere in shallow water, ie water you can walk in. Just dig in those tiles to get clay.

Hmm. It did not let me dig in the river. I must have been doing something wrong.

Do you have the pottery skill? Until you get that it won't let you dig.

Is there room in your inventory? Are you standing all the way in the water until the red "You cannot cross deep water without swimming" comes up?

It's easier to dig on the shores of a lake. They have more shallow water.
