Problems with Mining

Hi, I learned Mining, I have a Stone Axe, I'm in a mine and i'm triying to mine some minerals with the skill Mine. Unfortunately the character doesn't begin to mine. What's wrong?

Step one: Are you in a mine?

Hmmhmm. And you have selected "Mine", gotten the pick cursor and clicked on a black tile?
EDIT: Also, it is a mine you're in, right? Not a cave?

caves are natural and you don't mine in them. you mine in a mine, which is built... it looks like a hole in the ground with a ladder. sometimes you can build a mine in a cave, sometimes not.
