Do fir trees cause bears to spawn?

Lately I've been replanting the forest where I live with, particularly with fir trees. I didn't realize until lately that I may have been signing my own death warrant. I got mauled by a bear the last time I tried passing through a fir forest.

Different terrains spawn different animals. Grazing animals won't spawn in forests, and bears won't spawn outside of forests. As far as I'm aware, at least.

I've seen some anomalous behaviour where it seems like fir trees are generating forest tiles around them (don't think the game code supports that yet, however), but unless that's happening, then you should be relatively safe.

Trees can change the terrain around them to forest though. 'Course, it sounds like he lives in a forest already, so moot point.
