Leeches not working?

Am I doing this right? I let leeches suck on me until they are bloated. After about 30 leeches I still havent gained 1 HHP. My constitution is only 13 so it doesn't drain much. I am at 6 HHP from a run in with ants and don't have access to gauze.

That does sound weird, though you may still just have been unlucky. With 30 leeches, you should only have been able to gain 9 HHP anyway, so it isn't completely outside the realm of the plausible.

It is random if they heal you or not. They will also only heal 1 HHP at a time, and heal 1 HHP in exchange for 1 SHP (at least at that Q).

Be careful, because they can knock you out and kill you. If you have no SHP when they drain they will drain your HHP instead. At least... If Im remembering correctly.

Bear with me if you know all this already. I don't know what facts you are missing so I will throw a bunch at you.

There are three numbers in your hit points shp/hhp/ideal hit points.

The first number shp is how many hits of damage you need to take before you pass out and lose a hhp. When your hhp go to 0 you are dead. The last number is what your hhp could be restored to. It goes up when your constitution and your strength go up.

Do not use leeches until your shp is back up to the highest it can be. To raise your soft hp make sure you are fully fed and wait a few minutes.

Put on just one leech (while you are experimenting) and watch closely. When a red 1 goes up you will have lost a shp and you will have had a chance for one hhp to go up. I believe leeches can take 3 shp's each before they bloat. Watch that middle number. That's the one you want to go up. It may not go up at all before the leech is bloated, so try again, never letting your shp go down to a dangerously low level.

I am at 6/6/37. I usually use 2 leeches at a time so they dont kill me. I keep my food level around 100% so I keep healing.

Ok, sounds like you know what you are doing, but have had bad luck in getting injured a lot, and the leeches not doing their stuff generously because of poor die rolls.

In a similar situation what I do is find a leech marsh located on the water and stand in the water for a full gaming session, fishing to keep my food supply going, but in the water so I am safe from bears, using leeches for bait and waiting and waiting while those points slowly slow trickle up. It goes faster once it starts working. When you have more hhp you can use more leeches at one time. All I can council now is patience.

Thanks for the help. After a couple hours fishing in the swamp, I was back to 40 hp. I am now back to 50/50/50 using the ones in my cabinet.

IMHO chance to heal depends on slot where leech placed. At least noticed many times when I had no luck with 6-10 leeches at all on another slots regain 4-6 HHP.

i have a feeling higher level leaches have a better chance of sucsessful healing hits, im not sure about this but thats the feeling i get.
i seam to have a lot harder time to get a heal from a ql 10 leach then i have from the higher ql leaches that i have used several times.
Has anyone else noticed this?

But anyhow be careful when you are that low on hp. better be safe then sorry, and have patience take it slowley.

hq leeches restores more HHP. Just as much as they take.
