Moving

Postby calodine » Wed Feb 10, 2010 9:47 pm

We setup a village and we have a decent enough number. Our somewhat unofficial chief got ahold of a prospecting kit off one of the cities - Some glasses and 100+ quality PER food, with the caveat that we stop expanding northeast. Apparently our hearth fires have somewhat wrecked the surrounding area as far as animals go. So, we decided to move to another area and get out of their way before they get bored and send one guy down to wipe us. Problem is, we still kinda suck.

So this is basically asking for any advice on the move. Best way of going about it, a quickish way of finding a good spot etc.

Right now we know we need to get set up near a mine, but not much else. How well connected are the rivers? Is moving long distance on them viable?

Unrelated question: How does sewing/cooking affect stuff? I know once I got cooking to 6 I could cook meat without losing quality, but would raising it further (Lets say 15-20) actually raise the quality?

Thanks.

The rivers are fairly well connected, but there are a lot of inland places that have no access to rivers without a long hike. We're in the process of moving as well, and to get to the place we need to get to we have to get a boat, follow the river to a certain point, get off the boat, carry the boat, take a loooooong hike, get back on the boat and follow the river some more, then get off the boat and head inland for quite awhile.

River settlements tend to get looted more often by passersby on boats, whereas if they can't see your settlement further inland then they're unlikely to get off their boat and head inwards to loot you.

Well If you have a village claim, then just move your hearthfires to another location. If you need to login to your hearthfire you can always travel to your village. Make sure your hearthfire location has plenty of booze. That way you can stay where you are and keep expanding but won't be driving down the local wildlife.

Won't be a mine nearby anyway, we're not far off the city. Moving'll let us expand as much as we want, and actually setup properly. Our village is disorganised to fuck.
